Do you want to get paid for posting ads on your web site ? I believe whenever you visit some popular sites, you see some square boxes with text links following by "Ads by Goooooogle". They are the google ads. They are smart enough to know what your page is talking about, and they will post relevent banner ads onto your site. They are mainly pure text for less traffic and wont affect the performance of your page. If someone is interested on the ad and click on the it, google will pay you a portion of their income from the advertiser fee.
How to get started?
First step is to have yourself a web site. A site of your own domain is most preferred. Then subscribe to google adsense. http://www.google.com/adsense/
Once your application is accepted, you can login and use their ad setting page to generate some javascript code based on your settings. You can then copy and paste it onto your web page.
How much can I earn?
Payout is based on eCPM (Effective CPM - Cost per 1000 impressions. From a publisher's perspective, CPM is a useful way to compare revenue across different channels and advertising programs. It is calculated by dividing total earnings by the number of impressions in thousands. For example, if a publisher earned $180 from 45,000 impressions, the CPM would equal $180/45, or $4.00.)
Google will not show you the detail of your income but you can view a report of your daily earnings. Note that different keyword have different payout rate. That means if your web site contain contents related to more popular keywords, you will probably be getting more pay. I've heard that an average site can get a month income of about $500.
Earn more?
There is a top keyword pay list (http://money.softbath.net/articles/money/adsense.htm). The price will differ with areas. So, try to work on a best pay web site if you are targeting for money !!! :P
Notes on adding banner scripts:
If you are getting Public Service Ads(PSA) instead of tailored ads, this means you are not getting benefit from it. Please check the google adsense FAQ to see the possible reaons. Though Im not clear about how the google crawler works, but here's a few points that would help:
- include your keywords within URL (e.g. http://www.softbath.net/toys/main.php will automatically list out toy ads)
- include keywords in title & meta tags - edit your html code, write keywords on your title and meta tag. Web Crawler often use this information to identify what your web site is about.
one page can host at most 3 adsense banner scripts only. Other scripts will be ignored and no banner would be shown.
But Honey, dont ever click on the ads on your own site. It is against the policy and you will risk your account got suspended!
